2014 NYC Histio Awareness Campaign & Liam Schulze Memorial Golf Tournament Wrap Up!

It is with such pleasure that we announce Liam's Lighthouse Foundation's Histio Awareness Campaign and Second Annual 5K TO FIGHT HISTIO in July was a HUGE success!  We have been receiving corporate sponsorship matches for funds teams raised until recently. We apologize for the delay, but we assure you it was worth the wait! There were over 350 registrants this year!  You raised over $98,000 as a team and we could not be more proud!

The turnout was almost double that of last year!  You can imagine our heads spinning as we start planning for next year’s event to make it even better than ever!  The weather was beautiful and we once again achieved our goal of increasing much needed Histio awareness during our 5K TO FIGHT HISTIO and at The Today Show!  Thank you to the Icla da Silva Foundation for partnering with us this year to increase the word about becoming a bone marrow donor and for signing up new donors at the 5K!

We are so thrilled that Dr. Michael Jordan from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital HLH Center of Excellence was able to join us this year with his wife and son.  He not only achieved a brief live interview at The Today Show, but also participated in the 5K with his family!  Dr. Jordan is one of the principle HLH researchers at Cincinnati Children’s and we couldn’t be more proud to be working with him and the HLH Center of Excellence.  Thank you for being a part of this one, Dr. Michael Jordan!

We were blessed to have so many histio families and friends with us in NYC again this year, including a number of warriors and survivors!  There were several new families that attended after the recent loss of a loved one to Histiocytosis. We even had an official Virtual Walk in St. Louis! The word is spreading and it’s all because of YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to our many donors and sponsors, all who worked so hard to fundraise to reach your goals, and those volunteers who worked so tirelessly to help make sure our event was a success!

We will once again be supporting the research being done for HLH at Cincinnati Children’s as well as helping to fund a desktop DNA Sequencer for LCH research at Texas Children’s Hospital under Dr. Ken McClain and Dr. Carl Allen.  Please stay tuned for more details about our upcoming research grants.

Ralph Nardell Photography once again volunteered to provide his amazing talent to cover our event so we can cherish these memories forever. We are truly in awe over his inspiring shots. You can now view a full uncut video of EVERY photo taken at this year’s event.  Thank you Ralph!

On a more personal level, most of you know I was able to make the trip to NYC but was 7 months pregnant and very ill with nausea and vomiting throughout the entire pregnancy.  All is well and I am happy to announce the birth of our son, Finn Christopher, born 2 weeks early on October 3, 2014.  I was only able to do so much preparation for this year’s event due to feeling so ill.  If it weren’t for some very special people, we wouldn’t have been able to pull off this event this year.  I want to reach out to the following people and say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart:  Amanda Majusiak, Rochelle Wilkinson, April Zambetti, Lynn Carle, Sheri Byrd, Christopher and Sabrina Slezak, Faith O’Donnell and family, Lori Negron, and Jodi Stewart.  Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!

Thank you to Julie and Todd Buckner and The Abigail Buckner Foundation for once again partnering with us to fund research at Cincinnati Children’s HLH Center of Excellence.  Their annual Pinning Down a Cure fundraiser was very successful and we are grateful for their donation to LLF to help fund this research.

The 6th annual Liam Schulze Memorial Golf Tournament was held on September 20 at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course.
THANK YOU to everyone who came out on September 20th to honor Liam and help us fight this battle for others affected by Histiocytosis. The 6th Annual Liam Schulze Memorial Golf Tournament was a huge success! Special thanks to my brother, Christopher Slezak, and mom, Rose Ann Podminick, and everyone else who helped make this day possible including our golfers, donors, and sponsors, especially because i couldnt be there this year. Together we raised over $9,900.00!! Hope to see you all next year!

On behalf of the entire LLF Team, THANK YOU!

-It is with great sadness we announce the loss of one of our little HLH warriors. Payton was a little ray of sunshine. We are so blessed to have met her and her family at our 2013 event in which they fundraised and participated in.

Sincerely,
Michelle Schulze
